Prematch Momentum is GoalLineExpert's market-calibrated prematch analysis tool for football. Despite its historical name, the current V3 model does not build its prediction from form, xG, injuries or other legacy momentum metrics. It uses current bookmaker prices to estimate fair market probabilities before kickoff.
The tool is designed as a decision-support indicator. It identifies the outcome that the available market data currently considers most likely, but it does not claim that the selection is automatically a value bet or a guaranteed prediction.
What does Prematch Momentum analyse?
The current V3 model starts with a complete 1X2 market: Home, Draw and Away prices must all be available from the same bookmaker. Selections from different bookmakers are never mixed to create one probability set.
Bet365 is the preferred source when it provides a valid complete market. If Bet365 is unavailable, the model may use another bookmaker with a complete 1X2 market. Alternative sources are ranked primarily by lower bookmaker margin and then by freshness of the available prices.
How are the H / X / A probabilities calculated?
Raw bookmaker odds include a built-in margin. Prematch Momentum first converts the three 1X2 odds into implied probabilities and then removes that margin by normalising the three values back to 100%.
The resulting H, X and A percentages shown in the expanded match view are therefore de-vigged, market-calibrated probabilities rather than the raw probabilities implied directly by the bookmaker prices.
How is the main prediction selected?
The model first compares the fair Home and Away probabilities and identifies the stronger side.
If the stronger side has a fair probability of at least 60%, Prematch Momentum publishes a Match Winner prediction:
- HomeWin when Home is the stronger side;
- AwayWin when Away is the stronger side.
If neither side reaches the 60% Match Winner threshold, the model checks a Double Chance alternative.
When is Double Chance used?
For a stronger Home side, the model evaluates 1X as Home probability plus Draw probability. For a stronger Away side, it evaluates X2 as Away probability plus Draw probability.
A Double Chance prediction is published only when its calculated fair probability is at least 80% and a valid Double Chance price is actually available.
If neither the Match Winner nor Double Chance conditions are satisfied, the fixture receives no public Prematch Momentum pick.
What does the displayed Probability mean?
The percentage shown next to the published pick is the model's fair probability for that specific selection, rounded to a whole percentage.
For HomeWin or AwayWin it corresponds to the selected side's de-vigged 1X2 probability. For 1X or X2 it is the combined fair probability of the two included outcomes.
This Probability is different from the separate Data Quality score.
What does Data Quality /100 mean?
Data Quality evaluates the quality of the market input used by the model. It is not the predicted chance of the pick winning.
A valid Bet365 1X2 market starts from a quality score of 100, while an alternative bookmaker starts from 92. The score is then reduced when the odds are older and when the bookmaker margin is higher.
The age penalty is approximately 1.5 quality points per hour, capped at 20 points. An additional penalty is applied when the 1X2 overround exceeds 1.08, with a larger penalty above 1.12.
How fresh must the odds be?
For a complete 1X2 market, freshness is measured using the oldest timestamp among Home, Draw and Away. A market older than 12 hours is rejected.
The 1X2 overround must also remain inside the model's accepted range. Markets with an implausibly low combined implied probability or an overround above 1.18 are excluded.
What do Qualified and Frozen mean?
A valid prediction is initially stored as QUALIFIED. When the fixture enters the final 60 minutes before kickoff, the prediction becomes FROZEN.
The frozen state preserves the selected pick, probability and relevant odds so that the final result can later be evaluated against the prematch decision that was actually available before the match.
Is Prematch Momentum a value-betting model?
No. The current V3 production model explicitly treats its published selections as likely-outcome indicators, not validated value bets.
The system can calculate a research EV estimate from the model probability and available price, but the production signal remains marked as NO VALUE until a separate forward evaluation demonstrates a reliable betting edge.
How are predictions preserved on the public page?
The public Prematch Momentum page reads from a dedicated snapshot table. While a fixture is still open, the active snapshot can be rebuilt from the latest qualified or frozen production signal.
After settlement, the historical prematch prediction is preserved. The settlement process adds the final score, result code and outcome without replacing the original prematch pick and probability.
How are results settled?
Prematch Momentum evaluates football results using regulation time.
Fixtures with final statuses FT, AET or PEN can be settled when a reliable full-time regulation score is available. For matches that continue into extra time or penalties, the regulation-time result is used rather than the final post-extra-time or shootout winner.
- HomeWin wins only when the regulation result is Home;
- AwayWin wins only when the regulation result is Away;
- 1X wins on Home or Draw;
- X2 wins on Draw or Away.
Abandoned, cancelled and walkover fixtures are treated as void by the V3 settlement layer. The legacy public schema may display these records as PUSH because it uses an older outcome vocabulary.
What do the summary statistics show?
The page displays the number of upcoming predictions, the average probability of the currently filtered dataset and the settled Wins-Losses result count for that same filtered range.
The H/X/A market probabilities, bookmaker, selected odd, Data Quality score, odds freshness and model version are available inside each expanded match row.
Who can see Prematch Momentum predictions?
Visitors who are not logged in do not receive a live prediction row. A registered Free user can preview one real prediction from the current result set. Premium users with the required site access can view the full available list and pagination.
How should Prematch Momentum be used?
Prematch Momentum is best used as a structured view of what the current 1X2 market is implying before kickoff. It can help compare the market's view of Home, Draw and Away, identify stronger likely-outcome situations and inspect the quality and freshness of the data behind the signal.
It should not be interpreted as certainty, a guaranteed profitable selection or proof that a bookmaker price offers positive value. The final betting decision remains with the user.
